Family Photography Locations in Chattanooga

Families

Chattanooga and nearby North Georgia are both wonderful locations for family photography! With urban cityscapes and rural mountain views easily available within minutes of each other, it’s really hard to go wrong. Read on to see some beautiful examples!

Chickamauga Battlefield

A national park 20 minutes from Chattanooga – full of perfect locations for family photography

Not every city is a stone’s throw from a 9500 acre national park – and not everyone in Chattanooga takes advantage of the one they have! I have always felt incredibly lucky to have the Chickamauga Battlefield (also called the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park) literally in my back yard.

When I have clients choose “the battlefield” (the locals’ name) for their session, I send a list of location options WITHIN the park. This is only really necessary so we can find each other; I have yet to find a place inside that isn’t beautiful.

The amount of variety found here is sort of shocking; it’s not just trees and tall grass, though there is plenty of that! And depending on the time of year you could absolutely take multiple sets of photos in the same location and never be bored. A top choice of mine for a reason!

Downtown Chattanooga

Love the city? No need to leave, downtown Chattanooga has so many an amazing family photography locations

While the greater Chattanooga area has a lot to boast about, there’s also no need to leave the actual downtown. If an urban vibe is your scene, let’s meet at any one of a number of downtown locations and take some awesome family photos!

I say this too often but it’s true: it’s not called the Scenic City for nothing! The cityscape is super unique, and there are lots of downtown locations where it can be in your photos! Coolidge Park has views of the Walnut Street bridge (one of the most iconic structures in the city), the Tennessee Aquarium (the other most iconic structure), and the Tennessee River, all by itself! And, there’s a carousel, and it’s beautiful. Coolidge Park is pictured above and top of the post!

Also popular is taking photos ON the Walnut Street Bridge, and for good reason. The bridge features both city and water views and kids really love it, plus it’s also a nice walk! Renaissance Park is beautiful and walkable from Coolidge (also with city views). And a bit further out is the River Walk which now stretches all the way into the adorable suburb St Elmo.

There are lots and lots of ways to get creative with family photography in downtown Chattanooga; in fact, it’s hard to pick a starting point!

Local Farm

Gorgeous mountain views and lovely rural charm are just a short drive from the Scenic City

If you’re looking for a more laid back, out-in-the-country feel, you won’t have to look far. From North Chattanooga to North Georgia and atop the mountains that lay in between, farmland is abundant. And absolutely beautiful!

The photos above are from Mountain Cove Farms in Chickamauga, Georgia. One of my all-time favorite photo locations! This and many, many other local farms have a ton to offer for family photography locations.

Who doesn’t want a photo of your child loving their life on an old fashioned tree swing? Or your family in front of some authentic barn doors? And, it’s not unlikely you’ll be able to get mountain views in your farm photos (at Mountain Cove, you definitely will!). Wins all around. Farms are a great choice for Chattanooga area family photography!

Hiking Trail

Chattanooga is a very popular hiking destination – one of the many trails can make a perfect location for family photography

Outdoorsy family? Or just hoping for some amazing fall leaves, summer sunshine, spring blooms, even natural winter beauty. Let’s go for a hike! (Sing that like “Let’s Go Fly a Kite”, obviously). People visit Chattanooga from all over the country to hike and enjoy the outdoor activities. Why not add a little adventure to your family photos.

This particular photo is on a hiking trail just near Ruby Falls! But as far as I can tell, there is no end to these types of locations in the Chattanooga and North Georgia area. Just south of the city in Walker County, Georgia is another fun hiking spot for photos called The Pocket – it’s a wildflower trail! And also has a boardwalk for easy access in any attire.

If this sounds like your speed, let’s hit the trail! For this one in particular, we’ll need to check on any required permits. At The Pocket, for example, all visitors are required to have a wildlife license. Makes things extra interesting!

Your home!

Why go far – your own home can be a beautiful location for some super special family photos

Last but not least, consider family photos in an easy location – your own home! I love at home sessions, it is a lot of fun for everyone and there is not a place more special to you! Imagine having prints hanging in your home of your family, right at home. Plus everyone is already comfortable here. What a great place!

Whether it’s outside on your porch or in the back yard, or we take it inside and set up studio lights (definitely available! Contact for a family photography pricing guide!) this is a session that can’t help but be absolutely, positively, you.

My goal with all family photo sessions is to capture this time in your life in a way that tells your beautiful life’s story via a mix of story moments and portraits. Your home gives you a head start by adding a piece of your life that you literally can’t get anywhere else!
